New Staff Member

The Aquatic Animal Health section of the Australian Government Department of Agriculture Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) has recently welcomed Belinda Wright to the team.

Belinda is a veterinarian with a post-graduate qualification in aquatic animal health. Belinda completed her veterinary degree at the University of Queensland in 1990 and received a Master of Science degree in Aquatic Veterinary Studies from the University of Stirling, Scotland, in 1999. Belinda is also currently in her second year of post-graduate study in Clinical Epidemiology through the University of Newcastle.

Belinda has spent the last 3½ years working with Biosecurity Australia (also within DAFF) providing scientific and technical advice on the development of Australia’s quarantine policies for aquatic animals - particularly for the revision of the import risk analysis on prawns and prawn products. Before working with Biosecurity Australia, Belinda had written reports for Stirling Aquaculture on the welfare of farmed fish and the use of drugs in Scottish aquaculture, and had worked in small animal and ornamental fish veterinary practice in the United Kingdom.
